What is Eyeball Chat?

Eyeball Chat is an internet communications application that provides support for voice, video chat and instant messaging. Eyeball Chat features include multi-way voice and video conferencing, file, music and picture transfer and instant messaging with AIM, Google Talk MSN and Yahoo! Buddies. It also provides a chat room feature, where you can meet new people and chat with them. Best of all, Eyeball Chat is provided free of charge.

How do I get an Eyeball ID?

You can get your free Eyeball ID by signing up. Once you have created your Eyeball ID you'll then be able to access the chat service. We hope you enjoy using Eyeball Chat - remember to tell all your friends!

How do I get Eyeball Chat?

Start by downloading the free software. You'll then be able to create an Eyeball ID to login to the service. We hope you enjoy using Eyeball Chat - remember to tell all your friends!

What are the minimum requirements?

Eyeball Chat is a free service. Simply download the Eyeball Chat software, and get an Eyeball ID. To use the basic features you will need the following:

Microsoft Windows XP, Vista
Microsoft DirectX 8.0 or later
Speakers & microphone or headset
Webcam required to send video
A broadband connection is recommended for the best user experience

Can I still use Eyeball Chat without a webcam or microphone?

Yes! The table below explains exactly what is possible:

Starting a video chat with or without a camera works exactly the same. The only difference is that you'll be sending voice only.

Can I communicate with my AIM, MSN, Google Talk, and Yahoo! buddies?

Yes, you can text chat with your AIM, MSN, Google Talk, and Yahoo! buddies and see their presence status.

How can you make Eyeball Chat available for free?

Good question. Obviously we want as many people to enjoy using Eyeball Chat as possible. The best way to do this is to make the program available free of charge. Eyeball Chat is free for personal use only. What this means is if your business has 200 people using Eyeball Chat, you'll need to purchase one of our enterprise products and/or solutions. You'll then benefit from a customized, dedicated service with fantastic live support plus a host of other features.

I am a Eyeball Chat 2.2 user. If I upgrade to Eyeball Chat 3.2, can I still chat with my Eyeball Chat buddies?

Yes, you can still chat with your old buddies provided they use the new Eyeball Chat 3.2. You have to activate your Eyeball Chat 2.2 account by the link given in the email from us. If you haven't got the mail, then you can go to http://www.eyeballchat.com/index.php?option=com_jumi&fileid=18 and activate your account.

How can I share file or picture?

There are 3 ways:

1. You can drag the file or picture on the buddy in the Contact List with whom you want to share it.

2. If you are chatting with the buddy already then you can drag the file or picture on the chat window to share it.

3. You can click the “File Transfer” button on the chat window and then select the file.

I am behind a NAT or firewall. Can I use Eyeball Chat?

Yes, you can use Eyeball Chat even though you are behind a NAT, firewall or web-proxy. Eyeball Chat is based on Eyeball AnyFirewall Technology, a firewall traversal engine based on open standards like STUN, TURN and ICE. Eyeball Chat 2.2 User Upgrade

I am a Eyeball Chat 2.2 user. What do I have to do to upgrade to Eyeball Chat 3.2?

Upgrade to Eyeball Chat 3.2 involves two simple steps:

1. Download Eyeball Chat 3.2 from the download page.

2. Activate Eyeball Chat 3.2 account by clicking here.

If I upgrade to Eyeball Chat 3.2, can I still chat with my Eyeball Chat 2.2 buddies?

Yes, Eyeball Chat preserves old Eyeball IDs and buddy-lists. You can still chat with your old buddies provided they also activate their account on Eyeball Chat3.2.

Voice Chat

How do I start a voice chat?

There are 4 ways you can initiate a voice chat.

1. From the contact list select an Eyeball ID and click the "Voice" button.





2. Right click a buddy in the contact list and click "Audio Call" from the menu.

3. From the Text Message window click the "Call" Menu and select "Call {Buddy’s name} computer", PC to PC voice chat request will be sent to the person you are currently text chatting with.



4. From an Eyeball Chat Room select an Eyeball ID from the member list on the left and select "Audio Call" from the context menu.

How do I end a voice chat?

Click on the "Close" button in the upper right corner of the voice chat window or click on the menu and select "End Call".



How do I voice chat with AIM/Yahoo/MSN/Google Talk buddies?

Voice chat with AIM, Google Talk, MSN and Yahoo! buddies is not supported. You can voice chat with your Eyeball buddies only.

Video Chat

How do I start a video chat?

There are 4 ways you can initiate a video chat.
1. From the contact list select an Eyeball ID and click the "Video" button



2. Right click a buddy in the contact list and select “Video Call” from the menu.

3. From the Text Message window click the "Video Call" button and a video chat request will be sent to the person you are currently chatting with.



4. From an Eyeball Chat Room select an Eyeball ID from the member list on the left and select "Video Call" from the context menu.

How do I end a video chat?

Click on the "Close" button in the upper right corner of the video chat window or select "End Call" from the menu.

Is it possible to increase the size of the video screen?

Yes, it is possible, provided your chat window size is large enough. Using mouse wheel on video screen you can increase its size. Increase size of the chat window by dragging, if necessary.

Does Eyeball Chat offer multi-party video chat?

Yes Eyeball Chat supports five-party video communication capabilities.

How do I host a video conference?

During a one-to-one video session with a buddy, if you want another buddy to join your chat then, video call your second buddy. This will put the first session on hold. Now from the menu go to "Conference" and there you will see a list of buddies who are on hold. Select the one that you want to join the video session.



If you want to add more buddies to the conference then make individual video calls to them and then add them through the menu on the conference window. The conference must be taken off hold to add other buddies to the conference. Only host can add buddies to conference.

IM Support

How do I setup my AIM, MSN, Google Talk or Yahoo! connections?

Go to Preferences and select "AIM, GT, MSN, Yahoo!" tab and enter your credentials to setup the connection.



How do I send a text message to one of my AIM, MSN, Google Talk or Yahoo! buddies?

Sending a text message is very similar to other IM services you may use. Double-clicking an online contact will open a text message window where you can type in your message. The message will appear in their own text message window just as if you were using that program yourself. They won't even know you're using Eyeball Chat unless you tell them (which we hope you will!).

Can I video chat with my AIM, MSN, Google Talk or Yahoo! buddies?

No. You can only send text to your AIM, Google Talk, MSN, and Yahoo! buddies.

Contact List

How do I add people to my contact list?

Click on the "Add a new Contact" button at the bottom of the Eyeball Chat main window (see image below).



The Add Contact screen will appear.



Select a service (AIM/Google Talk/MSN/Eyeball/Phone Number/Yahoo) and enter the username. Click “Add”.

How do I delete people from my contact list?

Right-click on a contact in your list and select "Remove" to remove that person from your contact list.

How do I block people on my contact list?

Right-click on a contact in your list and select "Block" to block that person from your contact list. Once that person is blocked, he/she won't be able to view your online status or send you private messages.

What is Contact Authorization?

This is a privacy feature that is found in other IM services as well. When someone adds you to their contact list, you must first approve, authorize, before they can see your online status, and send you private messages. Eyeball IDs you've added that are awaiting approval will remain under "Awaiting Authorization" until they are authorized.

What does the status indicator do?

Eyeball Chat allows you to change your status in the main window. When you're logged in your Status will be shown below your Eyeball ID. By default you are shown as "Available". By changing to "Away" status, you'll still receive video chat requests and text messages. This is in case you're away from your computer but within hearing distance of alert sounds which will provide notification. You will be shown as "Idle" if your computer is inactive for a period of time. By default this is set to 10 minutes, which can be changed from "My Status" page in Preferences window.

Eyeball Chat Rooms

Can I create a room of my own?

No, adding a room of your own is not supported at this time. We intend adding this feature in a future version to make it even easier to meet people via Eyeball Chat.

How do I stop abuse from other members?

There are a number of ways to prevent abuse in chat rooms.

1. Block all private communication requests:

• Click the box beside "Block private messages" in the top-right corner.
• This will allow you to block all text and video messages as well as video chat requests while in the chat rooms.
• This does not block private messages from people in your contact list.

2. Filter all messages from a particular room member:

• Click the name of the person causing abuse from the member list.
• Click the "Ignore" button above the member list.

You will no longer view messages in the chat room window from that person.

Can I access chat rooms other than Eyeball's such as Yahoo! chat rooms?

No. Eyeball Chat allows you to access Eyeball's own chat rooms only. Eyeball Chat contains over 25 different chat rooms where you can meet others.

What are the Eyeball Chat Community Guidelines?

The Eyeball Chat Community is designed to be a great place for members to meet and interact via Eyeball Chat. Like any community, if all members follow a few basic rules, everyone can enjoy a more rewarding experience. Please follow these guidelines:

• Do not abuse, threaten, stalk or otherwise harass other members.

• Do not transmit any illegal or otherwise obscene material to other members.

• Do not spam other members with commercial or advertising material.

Stay on topic as best you can. If you wish to discuss another topic, we suggest you to move to that room or chat privately.
• The "Romance" rooms are the ONLY rooms where adult content is permitted. You must be over 18 years to participate in these rooms.

PSTN Calls

How do I setup PSTN gateways?

You must have a SIP service account that is capable of making phone calls.

Go to "SIP Server (Dial Pad)" in Preferences and enter the account information.

Click "Register" to login to your PSTN account.

How do I place a call?

If PSTN account is set up properly and logged in successfully then the "Dial Pad" button will be enabled as shown in the following screenshot.

Click the "Dial Pad" button or "Dial Pad" option from the context menu from the system tray icon.

You can store phone numbers of a buddy in the contact details. Then you can call his/her phone directly from the "Phone" button of the selected buddy in the contact list.

Does Eyeball Chat support DTMF?

Yes, Eyeball Chat supports DTMF.

Where is my video preview window?

Click on the webcam button as shown below.

How do I take snapshots?

Click on the snapshot button in chat window while you are video chatting or from "My Video" window.




What is the use of picture-in-picture feature?

Shows your video preview in buddy's video window while you are video chatting.

How can I view past text chats with my buddies?

Yes, it is. Click on menu and select "View Past Chats" as shown in the screenshot.

How do I find which version of Eyeball Chat is currently installed?

You can see the version on the splash screen while Eyeball Chat is loading as shown in the figure



You can also right click on the Eyeball Chat icon in the system tray and select "About Eyeball Chat" to view the version.
